Reflect and Evaluate Whether Your Business Is Aligned With Your WHY

Reina Lombardi • September 21, 2022

As you create your business, it is so important to schedule out time to reflect and evaluate whether or not the business is aligned with your Why for doing it in the first place.

As you create your business, it is so important to schedule out time to reflect and evaluate whether or not the business is aligned with your Why for doing it in the first place.

The Why is not the mission and vision for your business. Those are important, too, but different. Your WHY is more "I created this business, in this way, in order to experience X,Y, & Z in my life.

My Why is about earning enough to save for retirement, travel often to vast landscapes where I can disconnect from modern life and relish my connection with nature and spirit, to spend more time with family and friends without burning out.

Making time for reflection allows oneself to identify areas within the business in need of pruning. I need to cut back some areas that while they are fruitful, they aren't generating the level of return that I need to align with my Why. I need to eliminate things that are less productive and taking away from my ability to pursue the growth I seek to attain in my businesses. Right now, I don't have a clear picture of what that looks like, rather a general sense.

After this week, I plan to give myself some time to meditate and journal around it. This will help me come up with a game plan. I always try to keep in mind that there are no wrong choices here just more information. This helps ease any anxiety that emerges with making edits in the business.

Our businesses are constantly in a state of "in draft". They are never complete. They are always evolving and growing.

Periodic editing helps us to stay grounded in the reason we decided to go out on our own in the first place. Without it, our business can take on a life of it's own and easily start running (or ruining) the life we are working so hard to create.

As you create and develop your practice, I hope you build in time to reflect that what you are creating truly aligns with your life goals. If it doesn't, make some edits to course correct.
