Three Reasons to Become Part of a Mastermind Group
What is a Mastermind Group, you ask? It was first referenced, as the Mastermind principle, by Napoleon Hill in The Law of Success. He synthesizes lessons he learned on achieving life changing success after years of interviewing the great industrialists and entrepreneurs of his time. Most people are more familiar with his book
Think and Grow Rich. In both texts, he discusses the benefits of being part of a Mastermind.
The Mastermind Group is comprised of individuals with a common goal - to learn from one another, brainstorm ideas, and to reach goals through accountability and support. The old saying, "two heads are better than one," is the leverage a Mastermind group offers.
I have participated in Mastermind Groups and I have been facilitating The Creative Arts Practice Builder Group for the past three years. Here are 3 reasons to become part of a Mastermind Group.
1.)
The law of averages.
This law suggests that the results of any situation will be the average of all outcomes. Jim Rohn attributed the theory to the company we keep. He has been quoted saying, " We are the average of the 5 people we spend the most time with." Tim Sanders said, "Your network is your net worth." Both are speaking to the same idea. If you want to level up surround yourself with folks doing the same or who are little farther along than you.
2.)
Building an Empowered Network.
This builds upon the principal of reason number one. Joining a Mastermind helps you to connect, spend time with and learn from other folks pushing out onto their growing edge. Surrounding yourself with folks dedicated to growth and development, inspire growth and development within you. I have made such deep rewarding relationships from paying to be a part of a mastermind group.
3.)
Support & Accountability. Taking action in unchartered territory can feel scary. It is helpful to have a place where you can express those feeling, receive mentorship and support, all while being gently held accountable to your goals. That is what a Mastermind Group can do.
Every year for 6 months, I facilitate a Mastermind Group. It runs February through July and meets on Monday afternoons for an hour. We also have a Facebook Group where we connect and hold each other accountable to our goals, share resources and our wins.
