THE POWER AND IMPACT OF BEING A CONNECTOR
When I present and mentor others on the topic of building a sustainable and thriving practice, I share on what I mean when I say,
"First, or Above all Else, Be of Service."
It goes without saying that
we are acting in service of your clients.
But what about the other folks working within our practices?
What about the
collegial relationships
we establish in our network? What about
agencies
with which we partner? What about
those we train, mentor and educate? What about the
kind folks in the service industries we partake (stylists, food service, banking, etc...)?
Every single relationship we make in our community is integral to the success of our businesses. When this is done effectively, people remember and are eager to support your work as you have done for them.
I challenge myself to do is to learn as much as I can about the skills, talents, roles and goals with those I build relationships. Having this knowledge helps me to know how I can support them by identifying potential clients or colleagues with which I can connect or refer. If I hold similar knowledge of the folks around me, I'm more effective at creating win-win connections. I visualize this like a
web of interconnectedness
which creates our network.
Networking can feel intimidating to many. It doesn't have to feel that way. If you think of networking as a task to do to gain referrals or dollars in the bank, it will likely feel like a chore.
Networking isn't about selling yourself. It is about building meaningful lasting relationships. Genuine ones.
When networking, unless someone is specifically asking me about what I do, my focus is on learning as much as I can about them and commit that information to memory.
I understand that the best way to be of service when networking, is by making meaningful introductions to others who will benefit from having that knowledge.
And vis-à-vis. We all benefit when we collaborate and support one another. The mental health of each member of our community is enhanced when there are multiple accessible resources to support the whole person or family system. And thus,
by building this web of interconnectedness you are also better equipped to be of service to your clients and anyone else in your circle.
We know that
we heal in connection. Genuine connection. We know that
societies that spend time in connection live longer, healthier lives. We know that those that have strong social supports experience a greater likelihood of maintained behavioral change. It makes sense
as practice owners we are responsible to create lasting connections in our community.
Do you need support building your practice? I offer consultations focused on aligned action within your business so that what you create is a reflection of your personal values and not someone else's model.
